Trained as a basic researcher and transformed into a practitioner, Kath Straub has spent 12 years translating research to practice. She has, for years, written a regular column translating academic research into usable practices for the industry. She actively enfolds emerging research and methods into the work her group does. She designed and updates the “Research practitioners need to know about” tutorial for UPA and other audiences each year. She is an active and visible contributor to the usability industry on both ends of the researcher-practitioner continuum. Between conferences she directs Usability.org, a global user research and design consultancy.
