Russ is Scientific Advisor at Research Collective – a usability laboratory and user experience consultancy in Tempe, AZ. He is also Associate Professor of Human Systems Engineering at Arizona State University and Visiting Professor of Human Factors at Northwestern University. Russ’ classes in human factors, human-computer interaction, and experience design have been recognized through awards from both ASU and Northwestern.
Russ directs the Human Factors Laboratory at ASU, where the National Science Foundation, Mayo Clinic, Veteran’s Health Administration, Federal Aviation Administration, Air Force Research Laboratory, and Motorola have funded his work. In the mid 1990s, Russ served on the Board of Directors of UXPA, was Founding Managing Editor of User Experience magazine, and edited the book Design by People for People: Essays on Usability. Prior to returning to academics, Russ served in a number of product design and user experience functions, including Senior Vice President and Partner at Fitch, Senior Vice President at Lextant Corporation and Senior Human Factors Engineer at Hewlett Packard. His consulting clients have included Hewlett-Packard, NASA, Disney, Nike, PepsiCo, Guidant, Microsoft, Qwest, Medtronic, Nortel, Agilent, Ethicon, Iomega, Ford Motor Company, Lexmark and many others.
